What's This?
Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America Inc. changed the name of Kapidex (dexlansoprazole), a proton pump inhibitor that is approved for several indications in gastroesophageal reflux disease, to Dexilant to minimize potential medication errors resulting from name confusion with other products.
The decision for the name change was made following discussions Takeda had with the
Food and Drug Administration.
The company cited reports of dispensing errors between Kapidex and
AstraZeneca Plc's prostate cancer drug Casodex (bicalutamide) and
Actavis Group's pain drug Kadian (morphine sulfate) extended-release capsules.
Kapidex will be available under the new brand name near the end of April.
