The Food and Drug Administration approved olmesartan medoxomil for use in children and adolescents aged 6 to 16 years.

The drug, an angiotensin II receptor blocker that is marketed by Daiichi Sankyo Inc. under the brand name Benicar, was initially approved in 2002 for the treatment of hypertension in adults.
