Delcath Systems Inc. received two orphan drug designations from the Food and Drug Administration for melphalan--one as a potential treatment for cutaneous melanoma and the other for ocular melanoma. The company is enrolling patients in a Phase III clinical trial to test its proprietary drug delivery system, known as percutaneous hepatic perfusion (PHP), in conjunction with melphalan to treat ocular and cutaneous melanoma metastatic to the liver.
