Evidence Grade 0 What's This?
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) used his amendatory veto power to add a provision to a bill that would allow parents to keep their dependents on their health care insurance until age 26 years. Parents with dependents who are veterans can extend coverage until age 30 years. The original bill permitted college students to remain on their parents' insurance for one year if they had to take a medical leave of absence or switch to part-time status due to an illness or injury. The state previously had no age requirement for dependent coverage. In order for the amended bill to become a law, the Illinois House of Representatives and Senate need to vote to accept the changes.
